The Real Effects Of Anxiety

the real effects of anxiety

The effects of anxiety often go overlooked and eventually; without us even realizing it they become a part of us.

Anxiety seems to be exploited if you ask me.

Wouldn’t you agree?

I’m writing this mainly because I have felt misunderstood for so long. One thing a lot of you may not know about me is that I struggle with PTSD, anxiety, OCD, and panic disorder. It’s been my normal since I was a young and I’ve become accustomed to it throughout time. It’s progressively gotten worse over time and other times has gotten better. That’s the thing about anxiety, it can be predictable for some, but for others like me who are figuring it all out its hard to know what “triggers” you.

Too many mis or un diagnosed people are walking around looking for a cure to something they don’t even have when the answer can really be so simple.

It took me a long time and a lot of health related ordeals in my life to realize how much our mind, body and soul really do work together.

We wonder why our body never heals, or why we get sick all of the time. or why you never sleep, (or maybe you sleep too much.) Some of us eat too much or not enough,.. all of these things that obviously cause other health related issues. We could be smiling everyday and not even know how bad we are suffering from anxiety.

Then to solve it, some doctors are treating these completely invisible diseases that aren’t even there in the first place, they are just a result of something bigger and more complex rather than really getting to figure out whats really wrong.

Anxiety is on a rampage for our health.

and i never really realized how bad it was until i started suffering myself and dove as deep as i could for answers. Our bodies really do keep the score of everything that happens to us mentally. Therapy has played the biggest role in my healing journey. I will all day every day advocate for self advocacy and therapy.

Maybe that’s in the from if confronting your past like it was for me. Confronting the things you have been in denial of. Accepting the hurt and being thankful for it can take you so much further then you think possible.

And It all starts with grace. Grace for yourself most importantly.

The term anxiety has been extremely abused over the years. Leaving hundreds of thousands of people who are suffering afraid to say or do anything about it.

With all of the misconceptions there are out there, its become much easier to just keep your struggles to yourself.

We don’t want anyone to feel sorry for us. or to believe we aren’t happy. It’s easy to pretend like nothing has never harmed us before; but the truth is that we are all suffering. Every second of every day. but in ways that no one else understands.

I often wonder if more of us felt like we weren’t alone, if we could actually acknowledge these things without fear of being shamed for them.

Maybe living in this world full of anxiety might just be somewhat of an easier one.

Once we become real about who we are and what we want, we encourage others to do the same.

The truth is that we are all going to have to face a harsh reality someday. & whether or not you already have, you start to realize that nothing in life that’s really worth it, is ever easy.

Facing a harsh reality is hard for some of us to believe and maybe it’s so hard because we don’t want to believe it.

We have to let go of the things in our past that hurt us so that we can truly move forward from them. If we don’t let them go now we will continue to carry them with us weighing down our free spirit and hiding the light that’s been begging to shine all this time.

Here are some important affirmations to remember;

Mindset Reset

  • You can’t change your past or the hurtful things that have been done to you.

Repeat: ” I am worth all the good things life has to offer”

  • You are who you surround yourself with.

Repeat: ” I am a good friend who is deserving of good friends”

  • The world owes you absolutely nothing, but you owe it yourself.

Repeat: “I am powerful”

  • Smiling is contagious, but so is anger, and resentment, and all of the other yucky stuff.

Repeat: “I smile knowing that happiness is my friend”

  • Don’t ever think your struggle is worse than someone else’s, it could always be worse.

Repeat: “I am thankful for my life”

  • Take control over what you worry about, it will literally eat you alive.

Repeat: ” I have control”

  • You are meant to be here.

Repeat: ” I am made for so much more”

I know that it’s scary but I really encourage any one reading this that feels like they may need help to actually seek out help. Wherever you feel the most comfortable.

Whether it be a friend, someone you truly trust, or a therapist. Just get the help you need and deserve. Do a simple google search on therapists in your area and make a list of questions you want to ask them. And don’t forget to ask about EMDR!

It took me years to find the right therapist.

Heck, it took me almost my whole life just to realize that my problems were real problems and to feel the need to talk about them. So give yourself grace.

Don’t feel bad about interviewing a therapist when you meet one for the first time. Especially for yourself to make sure it’s a good fit for you.

Be firm and strong for yourself. You are the only one that will care for your mind, body, and soul as much as you will.

You are worthy of so much more than what this life has been giving you.

If you are ever struggling and you are feeling like you don’t belong, reach out. Please. You matter more than you know and your life means something.
