7 Symptoms of Anxiety and How to Overcome Them

7 symptoms of anxiety and how to overcome them

There are many different beliefs and systems to take on and approach anxiety and anxious thoughts.

Not knowing what the symptoms of true anxiety for me were i struggled managing it for quite some time and being more aware has made all the difference.

For me, I have had to figure out my own route and find out what works best for me and my life, and most importantly my mind and body.

The reason for starting my blog has been for the sole purpose to help myself. Then hopefully help someone that is in the shoes that I was once in and am still growing in.

Becoming aware of the symptoms of anxiety plays a vital role in managing it.

You will never be able to truly help someone at the potential that god created and meant for you until you learn how to take care of yourself first. Even when days are bad and anxious thoughts consume me, i will always continue to press forward.

My prayer and hope for anyone reading this is that you give yourself an open mind and an open heart, and really push yourself to overcome. I hope that you can tell yourself, and meant it, that you have the power to overcome this.

I was never truly aware of the extent symptoms of anxiety could really be.

For some there are just physical symptoms. But, for others it can be just straight up fear of anything and everything. Others deal with PTSD like i have.

Truth is, all forms of anxiety have the potential to be completely debilitating.

Our whole goal should be to not let those anxious feelings get that far. and if it already has we need to find a way to reverse it.

Yes, I do know that it is easier said than done.

But the point is that it can be done.

First and foremost, it’s important to have grace for yourself.

1. Worrying about what other people think.

Take the first step by shutting off the funnel in your brain that is always filled with other people’s perception of you. Let go of the expectations you hold within yourself and become more aware with who you are at your core. Don’t accept opinions of others when it does absolutely no good for your heart.

Sometimes people want to tell us hurtful things simply just to hurt us. Even though they maybe think they are helping you. Being aware of who you are and what you want is a great strength to acquire when overcoming the symptoms of anxiety.

Begin doing more for yourself whether it be reading a self help book for 30 minutes a day or taking a bath at the end of the day. Do it for yourself. Try starting with just 10 minutes a day to yourself.

You have to start somewhere.

One thing you will notice that I mention a few times Is “do not be afraid”. Fear has been the number one symptom in my life of anxiety.

Quit giving your energy and time to fear and focus more on faith.

2. Feeling Full of Shame

Be honest and open with yourself about what it is that you need.  Being aware of the things that you as an individual needs is key to accepting who you are and letting go of shameful feelings. Stand your ground and protect your feelings, because they really do matter.

-Find a good support system when you are dealing with symptoms of anxiety.

This is HUGE.

Whether that be family, a friend, or an animal even. Seriously, whatever and whoever it is that motivates or inspires you. You need someone that you feel safe with.

If you have loved ones who are unaware of what your going through, even though it feels like they don’t care- that’s really not the case-most of the time they truly don’t understand.

Explain to them what it is you are going though and the support you need.

Just make sure and find the right people that are actually supporting you and want to help you and want to see you do better.

If you still find yourself feeling alone even when your not, try associating with a different crowd for once. Life shouldn’t constantly be filled with anxious feelings, we all deserve better.

You really do become like the people that you surround yourself with.

It’s OK to be alone some days, but pick up your phone and call someone if you need to.

3. Second guessing every little thing.

I don’t know if its the ‘needing reassurance’ thing, but for those of us with anxiety; second guessing becomes second nature and not even really a symptom.  Those loud noises sometimes get too loud and we start to become really quiet. Our society the past 20+ years has supported suppression in the Mental Health world making so many of us stay silent.

Take care of yourself and seek out help if you need to. There is no shame in bettering yourself.

Physically, mentally and spiritually, we have to take care of ourselves.

You may have to get comfortable with being a bit uncomfortable. But this is where true change begins to happen.

Ask for help, even if its really uncomfortable.

-Start a journal.

Wherever your thoughts are at, start there.

I never thought that writing was my thing so I never tried to write nor did I want to unless I absolutely had to. I’ve always loved to jot down notes on notepads, but never in a journal. I was always afraid the wrong person would find it and use it against me somehow.

Living in fear of the repercussions that would take place if i had spoke my truth haunted me for far too long.

I am only 2 months into journaling and I am so thankful I started.

On top of EMDR and many other practices i have put to action; I feel like it has really changed my life and has helped me deal with my anxiety symptoms so much easier.

There’s something about getting your thoughts out on paper that soothes your soul and calms your racing mind.

Don’t be afraid and know that you can always light it on fire after you write it down. 😉

4. Struggling with unanswered health problems.

Anxiety presents itself in many ways when it comes to taking its toll on our physical health. You may experience stomach aches, nausea, a tight chest, intense sweating, restlessness, sleeping problems, and the list goes on and on.. There are so many things we can do for ourselves when we listen to our bodies and tune into what the real problem is.

To help weed some things out of the way, make sure you get checked out by your regular physician. I also encourage you to pursue avenues that you think may be possible for your health. If no one is listening, do what you can to search for the answers you need.

The best things we can do for our anxiety we can do for ourselves. We truly hold so much power within ourselves.

Start with eating a well balanced diet and take a multivitamin—most important one for me has been Magnesium and Iron!

Usually there’s a reason why you crave certain things and we can learn a lot about our bodies by simply just listening to them.

I learned from the all naturalist doctor I was seeing, that even some of the healthiest foods out there can be toxic to you depending on your body. It was crazy to learn how they detect symptoms in your body with bio-feedback and use that to help treat your anxiety!

Always trust your gut, literally. That’s all i really have to say for that.

-Drink water!

Like ALOT of water! Such a key component in dealing with anxious things is taking care of our body the best we can.  I bet you may even lose some weight in the process. Plus, extra water helps our body flush out whatever toxins that  muscles are holding in.

They say a good standard is to drink half of our body weight in ounces of water daily.

So, if you weigh 100 pounds you should drink 50 ounces of water: Daily!

5. Setting high expectations for yourself and struggling to fulfill them.

You may realize that you have began to isolate yourself somehow. Making plans that you cant follow through with is extremely common for those of us who have anxiety. It results in anger, beating ourselves up, and worrying constantly.

I think if we understood that and quit holding such high expectations on ourselves and other people, we wouldn’t hurt each other so much.

Becoming aware of your anxiety means becoming aware of the big and little things that trigger it.

Limit caffeine as much as you can, friends, i hate to break it to you, but it really doesn’t help. I stick with my one cup of coffee a day. If I drink more than that, it really messes with the intensity of my anxiousness.

Alcohol can even have these same effects on some people. But, truly only you know what’s best for you.

Choose your daily battles wisely.

Learn how to say No to something or someone that is not benefiting you.

We are all unique inside AND out and none of us are the same. Being aware of who you are is a major step in growth and healing.

-Bi-Lateral Stimulation Watch this video, it really has helped me! Amazing information!

In moments when I feel panic coming along, I use this as one of my main resources to help ground myself.

6. Afraid of speaking your truth.

The place where you feel disconnected from the world is a place where fear loves to live. It makes it easier to live in the past rather than moving forward to the future. We second guess ourselves, get sick to our stomach, and decide to bow out usually at the last minute.

The symptoms of anxiety can keep us so disconnected from who we really are and want to be.

That fight seems to just never end.

Don’t be afraid of what others may say when you are being real about your feelings. Feelings are there for a reason and being aware of them has a greater effect on our health than it does to ignore them.

Once you learn how to turn sudden road blocks into an obstacle you are on the right track.

Becoming a positive person and having faith isn’t always an easy thing; especially when dealing with the treacherous symptoms of anxiety.

I mean, for some people it may be. For others, being positive is something you have to work really hard every single day for.

But being aware of this makes all the difference in taking control.

Always be your own advocate and don’t be afraid to stand your ground when you feel that it is right.

-Exercise.

This sounds so cliche. But, exercise is very vital to our mental health. Getting your blood flow going strongly benefits your mind, body, and soul.

7. Thinking and assuming you have all the answers.

I am the reason why i am counting this as one of my 7. I am the queen of assuming that i know what is going wrong. Its never been a bad intention of mine, but i realize now that the reason why i do it is because i want to fix everything and i get really overwhelmed when i cant. I admit that i also worry way too much about what other people think.

I’ve been learning that in order to move forward from anything you cant do it with bitterness. You have to find forgiveness in your heart and be grateful for the life you still have to live.

Be the person that inspires others, be more like the friend that you search for a friendship with.

Remember to take it one step at a time and one day at a time and that time heals.

-Meditate.

I can’t stress this enough how much meditation has helped me in the midst of crappy days. Free your body from the physical stress it holds and be present and aware of your surroundings. If you don’t know where to start, get yourself a good ol’ pair of headphones and download the app called “Insight Timer” or ” Head Space”. You will be so glad you did.

& never forget that God always listens, and he is always there to help us when we are anxious.

Take what you can or want from this and I really hope it will help you as much as it has helped me to know of some of these things.
