50 Truths Being A Parent Has Taught Me

50 things being a mom has taught me

Being a parent to my little people has been the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

Hence the reason i decided to make a list of over 50 truths i have learned along the way.

There really is something about taking care of other people constantly that really make you evaluate life a bit differently.

My oldest son is almost 6, and I have to give him a lot of the credit on this one. He, along with his dad open my eyes every day to new realities. Who he is becoming as a person has made us all so very proud. I truly feel like the luckiest mama in the world to have all 3 of our children and their amazing personalities to sustain me on a daily basis.

  1. Being a parent has taught me what matters the most in life.

  2. Sometimes the important stuff really can wait.
  3. Invest in the small moments, they often turn into inspirations.
  4. Patience really is a virtue. We don’t realize we have so much of until it’s stretched as far as it can go. Just when you think it can’t stretch more, something happens to stretch it farther. If I learned anything from this, it is to never pray for patience.
  5. Embrace your mistakes, we all make them. Sometimes multiple ones a day. You and I need to tell ourselves that it’s ok.
  6. Being late is not going to kill you.
  7. It’s fun being different and unique. Learn to embrace it!

  8. Don’t take nonsense from anyone. You will get no where quick bending over for people who don’t have good intentions for you at heart. Including doctors, teachers, peers and most importantly your friends and family.
  9. Be your own advocate, always.
  10. Stand firm in what you believe in when protecting yourself and those you love.
  11. Don’t be afraid to be yourself but remember tact, even as a parent. Our words do hurt.
  12. Sleep will come when it wants to, not when you want it to.
  13. Nothing you say means anything until you take action.
  14. Try to not get offended, it only hurts you and creates problems.
  15. Frozen pizza or lasagna is really ok for dinner.. and yes it does count as a meal!
  16. It’s OK to not always be right, especially when you are the parent. True integrity shows during these times and our kids are paying full attention.
  17. It’s ok to not have the best of the best stuff all of the time. Be grateful for what you do have because the people who are bragging about their “stuff” are most likely the ones who have damaging relationships in their life and they have nothing else to really show off or be happy about. Don’t be jealous of them, be kind to them. The way they treat you in return is a definition of their character, not yours.
  18. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

  19. A clean house is not a necessity. I struggled for years trying to keep a clean house spotless all of the time. It became obsessive and it was making me crabby if I couldn’t get everything done. Once I realized I was trying to do too much at once and focused more on my three children then cleaning constantly, life seemed a little easier) I used to think that people would judge me if they walked into my home and it wasn’t spotless. That is so far from the truth… people just want the raw YOU.
  20. Nothing ever goes as planned.
  21. Life happens constantly, and there’s nothing that we can do about it.
  22. Good friends are harder to attain these days. Love on the ones you have like you will never have another one like them again.
  23. Build and value your friendships because they will feed into your life in a positive way.
  24. Staying at home for the weekend in pajamas And eating nothing but snacks is completely acceptable every once in awhile.
  25. Don’t ever restrict yourself from change. You never know what decision could change your life for the better.
  26. Eat the food you want, go the places you want to go, and the do the things you want to do. Everything in moderation.
  27. Always be real with yourself and with others.

  28. The expectations you hold on yourself are so far off from what your family not only wants but needs from you.
  29. We need each other in our purest forms.
  30. Life isn’t easy for any of us. Have grace for one another.
  31. Being a mom has taught me to have more compassion than I did before. You learn to start seeing life through another persons eyes and start to live for not just yourself anymore.
  32. Your best is their best.
  33. Life is hard, and will never be fair. Tell yourself this and you will hopefully never set yourself up for disappointment.
  34. Just when think you have something figured out, life likes to throw you under the bus again just to prove to you that nothing in life will ever be perfect. God has to keep us on our toes somehow.
  35. Nothing is perfect and never will be, for anyone.
  36. Caffeine is as essential as water. They pretty much go hand in hand when you become an adult.
  37. Smiling is contagious, so is anger.

  38. It’s totally ok to have bad days. Feelings are a healthy part of our emotions, and it’s not healthy to hide them.
  39. Allow yourself to be frustrated if you are, and confront the situation right away so nothing has time to build up. (This is very important I think, for kids especially to know.)
  40. Allow others grace when they upset you or hurt your feelings. We all make mistakes and it’s important that we learn from them.
  41. When you notice someone is just mean and nothing you do for them can make them happy, just stay away from them. But before you do, tell them how you feel. Maybe it’s you who makes them want to change or to be a better person.
  42. We truly were all created equal. Appearances don’t always show that either. Sometimes the ugliest orange in the bunch is the juiciest on the inside.
  43. Don’t be afraid to let your true self show. There’s so many people in this world that we are bound to find someone that we will vibe with.

  44. Time spent invested in someone’s emotions and feelings is far more meaning full then just being present with someone. Put down the electronics and spend time with each other.
  45. Find the desire to do something great, and just do it. Whether it be helping an elderly stranger with their groceries, shoveling your neighbors driveway or simply just being kind and saying hello to someone who looks like they could use a smile. You are setting a huge example for our next generation. You would be amazed at the amount of children you can inspire by just being happy in a world like today’s. We need more happy, kids crave happiness. Let’s be that for them, for all of us.
  46. Being a parent pushes you to do more.
  47. Do more.
  48. Be you.
  49. Be Unique.
  50. The world needs us just as we are.
  51. You were given this life because you were strong enough to handle it.

My children are my reason for every bit of motivation in me to succeed. My kids have taught me how to truly be proud of something and myself.

Its become an important practice in my life to live in the moment and to look forward to the future.

Always keep your focus on moving forward.

Being a parent has changed my perspective on life completely. It has allowed me to not see life so broken anymore, and to start viewing life and experiences so much clearer.

What has being a parent taught you?
